The Topsy Foundation
Sadly, South Africa has one of the world’s highest HIV/AIDS infection rates. The Topsy Foundation helps people in South Africa’s most under-resourced rural communities cope with the effects of HIV/AIDS. We take a holistic approach, through a combination of medical and social services - from providing clinics and counseling, to food and access to education.
We run a whole spectrum of programmes. One example is our Orphan Care Development Project, where 140 children benefit from a structured curriculum and meals. Another is our Orphan Care Development Project, which offers assistance to families who have taken in orphaned children - to give an idea of the scale of the issue, by 2010 it’s estimated that orphans will comprise up to 12% of South Africa’s population, equating to over 4 million children. Another example is our Skills Training Project which teaches local women different beading techniques needed to make brooches and fashion accessories for sale.
